When you receive your apparel
You may smell a vinegar smell when you receive your apparel. The DTG printing method used to print the design, has that smell. Currently, the printer manufacturers do have a non-odorous printing product that can replace the one being used now, but because it is more corrosive and damaging to the environment, we've decided against using it. We hope to continue working with them to find a less odorous printing product that is also good for the environment.
Luckily, the odor you smell on your new apparel is just a temporary addition. Now that your apparel is out of the confined space of the shipping bag, the printing smell will dissipate after a few days and a wash cycle.
What is DTG printing?
Dye Sublimation is an awesome printing technique that allows for full color, all-over print tees and garments. The printing isn't as vibrant as screen printing because the ink is absorbed into the fabric so it has a vintage print look!
The artwork is printed onto a sheet of high-release paper and transferred onto the tee using heat and pressure. The heat converts the solid dye particles into a gas—known as sublimation—and bonds them to the fibers. So the colors on the apparel isn't as bright and vibrant. It looks more like a vintage print on apparel. Unlike screen printing, the dye is absorbed by the fabric for a softer feel. Because of the inconsistency in pressure, the print typically has smudges and blurs over seams, as well as areas of creasing near the edges.
